Raw Quilted Jacket
2024
A quilted black parka, a garment of pure utility and anonymity, was taken apart and reconstructed inside-out, exposing the sherpa lining that was never meant to be seen. What was hidden becomes the exterior. What was finished becomes raw. The interior logic of the garment is suddenly the surface, and the surface becomes the lining. The result is a piece that lives deliberately in the threshold between finished and unfinished. The exposed raw edges at the hem, cuffs, hood, and pocket openings are not accidents or oversights. They are the point. Fraying is kept controlled enough to hold structure while loose enough to signal that the hand was here, that this garment was touched, considered, and intentionally left open. The contrast between the precision of the original quilted diamond pattern and the deliberately undone edges creates a tension that drives the piece visually and conceptually.
